Born amidst the turmoil of conflict in Garlean-occupied Doma, Veis was the only daughter of a poor seamstress, Aoi Kiyomasa. Her father? An unknown Hyur who had left them the moment it was clear that she was pregnant, or so her mother had told her. It quickly became clear that she wasn’t “normal” as she continued to grow; Although her horns and tail quickly filled in, her body lacked any of the familiar white scales that her mother bore. Although it made her a target for other children’s bullying and belittling, her mother always helped her see the beauty that her heritage gifted her. A tumultuous upbringing, but one full of love.When it became clear that a Second Rebellion would happen, under the dead of night, Aoi made a choice. Sequestered away to the docks, a tearful goodbye was Veis’s send-off on her 18th birthday, the promises of a better life the only way to tear her out of her mother’s arms. Adrift at sea with few rations, it would be a long time before she arrived on the shores of Eorzea. And when she finally did? She understood the worth of her mother’s sacrifice.

She arrived malnourished but hopeful to the city-state of Ul’dah. And although there was naught they could do to aid her, she found a way to make ends meet on the streets. “The Starry-Eyed Dancer” became her nickname, quickly becoming a favorite while she danced her heart away to make whatever gil she could. It was there that she was found by the owner of a brothel, her potential instantly spotted. She was offered training and board, but not without a price. It would be under the wing of the brothel owner that she gave way to companionship, and despite some days being worse than most, she found a sense of empowerment and independence in her work, finding pride in a profession that many would consider unsavory.Indebted but hopeful for better opportunities, she spent the next 5 years paying off her debts, until finally she was relinquished from her shackles. Now, with a comfortable sum of gil and considerable experience, she continues on under the wing of a new, better club, but still freelances in her spare time.
